Bluetooth is the buzz word, while designing any automation system for study purpose. Automation of Home/Work place is common using short range communication technology, called Bluetooth. This is because it is hard to keep good communication between line-man/Maintenance staff and the Electric Sub-station Staff, where Sub-station is usually placed at distant place. The Bluetooth enabled Android Mobile Phone can be used as password entry device and control the Main-power line cut-off process by standing at safe and comfortable place.
Objective: The construction of system allows user/line-man or maintenance staff to control Main-power line cut-off standing at safe and comfortable place. Note that by using this smart circuit breaker system one can save line-man’s life from shock/power-line hazards.
This Smart Circuit Breaker System has two parts: User end where user uses Android App on his Android Mobile to enter password to switch OFF intended Main-power line via Bluetooth means; and Control end which acts as Power Station Office or Power Line Break Point and is connected with main controller unit [which decodes Bluetooth received password and switches off Main-power line point if correct]. The controller module is based on popular 8051 microcontroller chip. Its memory resident program/code monitors its Bluetooth module over its UART port or serial port for any user password. If any data found at serial communication (UART protocol) pin, it is decoded as password/cut-off command and accordingly executed on output port connected relay driver module. The output port connected Relay driver module cut-offs mains power line to loads safely. Again, connecting with suitable password entry by line-man, system switches ON its Relay Driver Module to normal position or Live position.
In simple terms: line-man connects power station unit or Cut-off point with his Mobile phone and enters password to cut-off power line. After his maintenance work, line-man again enters password and makes power station unit or Cut-off point to switch back mains power ON or Live.
The intended device needs Android App in user Android mobile hand set prior using this system. The range of the system is defined by used Bluetooth's communication range.
Even though it mentions Mains Power Line Control, only small numbers of relays are controlled. Hence less care needed while designing and controlling system.
Applications:
- The system is used as wireless and remotely controlled Circuit Breaker Unit at work-place.
- Since single point control is possible, useful for non-technical automation purpose as well.
- Since system is embedded type and wireless, portability is done very easily. Changing power line loads to control is also very easy.
