Bluetooth is the buzz word, while designing any automation system for study purpose. Automation of Home/Work place is common using short range communication technology, called Bluetooth. It is hard to keep good synchronization between Railway Crossing and Level Gate Closing system as it is run by manual method. The Bluetooth enabled Android Mobile Phone can be used as password/control entry device and control the Level Gate Open/Close process by standing at safe and comfortable place.
Objective: The system to construct which allows user/Gate-man or maintenance staff to control Level Gate Open/Close process standing at safe and comfortable place. Note that by using this smart Railway Gate Control system one can save road-crosser’s life from Accidents or mishaps.
This Railway Gate Control System has two parts: User end where user uses Android App on his Android Mobile to enter password/control command to Close/Open of Level Gate via Bluetooth means; and Control end which acts as smart command-center and is connected with main controller unit [which also decodes Bluetooth received password/control command and close/opens level gate]. The controller module is based on popular 8051 microcontroller chip. The chips memory resident program/code monitors its Bluetooth module over its UART port or serial port for any user password/control command. If any data found at serial communication (UART protocol) pin, it is decoded as password//control command and accordingly executed on output port connected Driver Module. The output port connected motor Driver Module actually open/closes level gate according to decoded data. The Display Module at work site gives railway gate position on its screen as visual representation.
In simple terms: line-man or gate-man connects control center unit with his Mobile phone and enters password and close command to close railway gate. After train passes, line-man again enters password/open command and makes railway gate to open for traffic.
The intended device needs Android App in user Android mobile hand set prior using this system. The range of the system is defined by used Bluetooth's communication range.
Since only small Motor is controlled, less care needed while designing and controlling system.
Applications:
- The system is used as wireless control or remote operated gate control system at home/work-place. For example garage door, main-gate, railway gate etc.
- Since single point control is possible, useful for non-technical person as well.
- Since system is embedded type and wireless, portability is done very easily. Changing load/gate to control is also very easy.
