Review: Mobile Phone Controlled Robotic Car

Bluetooth is the buzz word, while designing any automation system for study purpose. Automation of Home/Work place is common using short range communication technology, called Bluetooth. The ROV or Remote Operated Vehicles are making trends and allows user to control a robotic car or vehicle inside hazardous area standing at comfortable place. The Bluetooth enabled Android Mobile Phone can be used as remote control device and control the robotic car by standing at safe and comfortable place.

Objective: The construction of system which allows user to control robotic car wirelessly standing at safe and comfortable place. Note that getting current status/on-board detected parameters of the controlling car can also be implemented with slight code and hardware change at both ends. 

This Robotic Car System has two parts: User end who uses Android App on his Android Mobile to send command to control direction of intended vehicle via Bluetooth means; and Control end where controlling vehicle is implemented with main controller unit [which also decodes Bluetooth received commands and act accordingly]. The controller module is based on popular 8051 microcontroller chip or popular Arduino board. Its memory resident program/code monitors its Bluetooth module over its UART port or serial port for any user commands. If any data found at serial communication (UART protocol) pin, it is decoded as control command and accordingly executed on output port connected Driver Module. The output port connected Driver Module actually executes the control commands by rotating vehicle motors.

This system allows user to control eight parameters of the vehicle or robotic car.

The intended system needs Android App in user Android mobile hand set prior using this system. The range of the system is defined by used Bluetooth's communication range.
Since only robotic vehicle’s motor is controlled, less care needed while designing and controlling system [except battery as power supply].

Applications:

The system is used as wireless remote controlled Robotic Car System at home/work-place.
Since single point control is possible, useful for non-technical people.
Since system is embedded type and wireless, portability is done very easily. Changing controlled eight parameters is very easy.
