Review: Mobile Phone Controlled Automation System

Bluetooth is the buzz word, while designing any automation system for study purpose. Automation of Home/Work place is common using short range communication technology, called Bluetooth. It is difficult for elder or children or physically challenged person to control home/work place devices. The Bluetooth enabled Android Mobile Phone can be used as remote control device and control the home/work place devices by sitting at safe and comfortable place wirelessly.

Objective: The construction of system which allows user control the home/work place devices by sitting at safe and comfortable place wirelessly. Note that getting current status of the controlling device can also be implemented with slight code and hardware change at both ends. 

This Automation N Control System has two parts: User end who uses Android App on his Android Mobile to send command to control any device through Bluetooth means; and Control end where controlling device is connected with main controller unit [which also decodes Bluetooth received commands and act accordingly] via Load Controller Module. The controller module is based on popular 8051 microcontroller chip or ARM chip. Its memory resident program/code monitors its Bluetooth module over its UART port or serial port for any user commands. If any data found at serial communication (UART protocol) pin, it is decoded as activation/deactivation command send it to output port connected Load Controller Module. Here decoded command is executed on system connected loads. The output port connected Display Module shows current status of the system and command execution state.

Note that with slight modification at both ends getting current status of device and varying speed controlling can be implemented.

The intended device needs Android App in user Android mobile hand set prior using this system. The range of the system is defined by used Bluetooth's communication range.

Since mains drive loads are controlled, more care needed while designing and controlling system.

Applications & Features:

The system is used as wireless remote controlled wireless System at home/work-place.
Since single point control is possible, useful for non-technical people.
Since system is embedded type and wireless, portability is done very easily. Changing controlled device is very easy.
